HIKE TO HUCHUY QOSQO
TWO DAYS
$125.00

Huchuyqosqo is an Inca settlement located in the upper part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The place is considered as the last refuge of the Inca Wirachoca, who was the father of Pachacuteq Inca, regarded as one of the greatest strategists of the ancient civilization. Huchuyqosqo features constructions of the same quality as Machu Picchu, with royal enclosures, agricultural sectors, and storage areas connected by roads from the Sacred Valley, Cusco, and Chinchero. During this hike, you’ll traverse one of the trails that used to connect Huchuyqosqo with the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Cusco.

DAY 1: CUSCO – TAWKA – HUCHUYQOSQO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES
Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks)
Overnight stay (at the hotel in Aguas Calientes)
Transfer (from Lamay to Ollantaytambo included)

We begin our hike towards the Huchuyqosqo pass, which is located at 4200 mt / 13779 ft. The path from Tawka to the summit is an original Inca trail that connected the villages of Chinqhero with the Sacred Valley of the Incas and crossed the residence of Wiracocha Inca, considered a place of royalty. After reaching the summit, we begin to descend for about an hour through a canyon formed by the small river, which also features different types of Andean flora and fauna, and the opportunity to see alpacas and llamas. Once at the Huchuyqosqo archaeological site, you will have enough time to explore and receive explanations from the tour guide.

 Highest altitude (2450 m / 7360 ft)
 Tour duration (7-8 hours)

Most people who visit Machu Picchu take the train, and for them, of course, the main reason is to see Machu Picchu. But in your case, after completing the Lares trek, you will not only visit Machu Picchu but also deeply understand and feel the significance of the Inca civilizations. After an early breakfast, we will take the bus to Machu Picchu. The bus ride takes about 25 minutes to reach the main entrance of Machu Picchu. The aim is to arrive at Machu Picchu by 6:00 am to see it almost without people and enjoy the sunrise. After 20 to 30 minutes, you will have a guided tour for approximately 2:30 hours in Machu Picchu, and then you will have free time to explore the lost city of the Incas. Afterwards, you can visit the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge. If you booked tickets in advance for the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountains, you can climb them.
