Apukunaq Tianan is located 13 kilometers from Cusco’s Plaza de Armas, near the Tica Tica Arch, in an area called Huayna Corcor, in the locality of Sencca, district of Poroy in the city of Cusco.

Apukunaq Tianan was born as a result of a Cusco project aimed at keeping the tradition of stone carving alive. This abode showcases to its visitors a collection of sculptures representing Pachamama, water, the cosmos, deities, humans (runa), among others.

During its creation, several traditional and significant rituals were performed to show respect to the deities. Additionally, some legends and myths were born, adding to the curiosity of exploring this intriguing place.

HIGHLIGHTS

THE PUMA

This animal was revered by various Andean cultures. The Incas considered it a symbol of the earthly world, also known as kaypacha.

PACHAMAMA

This Quechua name refers to the earth, the source of food, and consequently, life for humans. For the Incas, Pachamama was a goddess to whom rituals of ‘earth payment’ had to be performed.

THE TRIDIMENSIONAL DOOR

This piece represents an entry within the stone formation, resembling a cave. For the Incas, caves connected the world of the living (kaypacha) with the world of the dead (ukupacha).

THE ANDINO MAN

According to Inca cosmology, man was created by the sun. The first son of the sun was Manco Capac, who led the Inca tribe to the Cusco valley, where the largest empire in South America would be founded.

THE MAN FROM THE JUNGLE

There is no evidence that the Incas ventured into the deep plains of the jungle. Nevertheless, trade between the Incas and jungle inhabitants was constant. The mysterious jungle was a source of products such as coca leaves.

We start the tour with the hotel pickup, then we head to the town of Tica Tica until we reach the Sencca sector. The duration of the journey is 25 minutes.
